Sally will be joined by more friends April 7, 2010 at 7pm at Saint David's Episcopal Church. Friends include Ayako, Decky and Audrey making us a dynamic quartet. We will perform Haydn String Quartet Op. 76 #1 and Dvorak String Quartet No. 6, "American". While visiting in California, we got together and were very enthusiastic about reading the Dvorak we decided the island needed this at the end of a long winter to start the celebration of spring. Come join us. As always, admission is by donation --- suggested donation of $15. |

UPDATED 9/12/09 In case you were wondering, PAS is working on a concert for October 7th and 8th, 2009 - that's a Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 7pm. I am bringing some friends up from Reno, Nevada (they needed a vacation from the heat). My dearest and oldest friend, Paula Lenz is bringing her husband John and daughter Ruth to play in the concert. Ruth will perform Mark O'Connor's Caprice #1 for solo violin piece. John will join her forHandel/Halvorsen's Passacaglia for violin/cello duet. Paula and I will join them for a Mendelssohn String Quartet, Op. 44 #1 (John will play the viola part on his cello). JOHN LENZ recently retired as professor of music at the University of Nevada, where he taught cello, horn, and theory for 37 years. He currently serves as principal hornist of the Reno Philharmonic, the Reno Chamber Orchestra, and the Great Basin Brass, and is the cellist (and hornist when needed) of the Telluride Chamber Players. A resident of Reno since 1951, he received degrees from the University of Nevada and the New England Conservatory in Boston before joining the UNR faculty in 1972. RUTH LENZ earned her Bachelors and Masters of Music from the University of Nevada, Reno and received her doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana. Ruth is acting concertmaster of the Reno Chamber Orchestra and Reno Philharmonic and concertmaster of the Nevada Opera. She is a violinist with the Telluride and Nevada Chamber Music Festivals and has also performed at the Spoleto and Sunriver Festivals. PAULA GRIGGS LENZ is a violinist with the Reno Philharmonic. She recently retired from teaching high school orchestra. She received her degree in music from the University of Nevada. Married to John for 37 years, and having raised four musician children, she enjoys any chance to play music with her family. Sally Browne and Paula have been playing chamber music together since elementary school, when they performed on the porch for all the neighborhood children. SALLY BROWNE has resided in Friday Harbor for 4 years and owns the Friday Harbor Souvenir Company. She was an active cellist in the San Francisco Bay Area before relocating here. Sally saw a need for performing opportunities for musicians, therefore organized the Performing Arts Society. The Performing Arts Society aims to foster the growth and appreciation of the performing arts in our community, as well as to provide performance opportunities for the island’s remarkably talented performing artists, featuring new compositions, vocals, acoustic instrumentation, chamber ensembles and piano works. This is going to be FABULOUS. Something not to be missed. LOCATIONS: October 7th, 7p will be held at The Grange, 152 1st Street North. October 8th will be held at Saint David's Episcopal Church, corner of Park and Marguerite, 7pm. Look for publicity in the newspapers and posters around town. We will be asking for a $10 donation to help with the expenses of coming up to perform for our wonderful community. |
